Architecture is a discipline that blends art, science, and technology to create sustainable environments, considering new ways of living and innovative materials. Architects are involved in the entire process of shaping the built environment, from feasibility studies to planning and construction management, working on a wide range of projects including residential, commercial, and urban landscapes.

The Cork Centre for Architectural Education, born from a collaboration between University College Cork (UCC) and Munster Technological University (MTU), delivers a robust Architecture program. This program is deeply rooted in design studio-based learning, supplemented by modules in technology and cultural context. The Centre’s state-of-the-art facilities and workshops are designed to nurture creativity, design excellence, and innovation.

Aligned with the UNESCO/UIA Charter for Architectural Education and the European Qualifications Directive, as well as the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland (RIAI) Education Policy, the program meets international educational standards. Upon completion of the program and a Master of Architecture, graduates who gain two years of professional experience and complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Architectural Professional Practice and Experience are eligible for RIAI accreditation. This accreditation is a legal requirement for the title of “Architect” in Ireland, as mandated by the Building Control Act 2007.

The curriculum begins with a foundational year focusing on design and the built environment, equipping students with essential skills in drawing, photography, modelmaking, and digital representation. As the program progresses, the focus intensifies on architecture, while still encouraging exploration and research in related disciplines. Students are immersed in a variety of learning experiences, including lectures, seminars, and hands-on studio work. Field trips to construction sites and study trips to cities in Ireland and across Europe further enrich the educational experience, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for the diverse and evolving challenges of the architectural profession.
