This module is focused on housing.
It looks at the state-of-the-art in research and practice related to housing.
It particularly focuses on the reuse of buildings for housing, their conservation and maintenance.
Best practice case study analysis form a core part of the module. Housing is evaluated in the contexts of whole life carbon, including operational and embodied carbon, best practice conservation, energy efficiency retrofit, and energy positivity amongst other topics.
Those taking this module will enhance their carbon literacy through a series of lectures that distil the growing body of knowledge related to the whole life carbon minimization of buildings, and best practice in reuse and conservation of buildings.
Through a series of lectures, and associated research and enquiry, students develop their own perspectives on the range of problems and proposed solutions related to the reuse of buildings. The module provides students with a clear understanding of the environmental benefits of building reuse and knowledge on how they might develop sustainable, low impacting and long lasting solutions.
