The TU832 Bachelor of Architecture programme is a professionally accredited five year programme. With experience educating architects in Bolton Street for almost 100 years, we recognise both the changing nature of architectural practice and the diverse roles that our graduates will take. Our programme equips our students with the critical design skills and professional competences necessary to engage with this changing context. The programme aligns with the TU Dublin strategic pillars of People, Planet, Partnership and since 2020 has been underpinned by the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The programme provides a balance of design and theory, through lectures and practical modules in the subject areas of History, Theory and Criticism, Environmental Design, Building Technology, Professional Practice and Visual Communications. This knowledge is applied through Architectural Design Studio projects, which develop in scale and complexity, at each stage of the programme but which all address a range of conceptual, cultural, technological and environmental issues and have climate literacy woven throughout.
Architectural Design Studio is the vehicle through which students test, and develop their own creative process and critical ideas and acquire the fundamental skills of architectural practice. It is a space for collaboration as well as independent learning. We run a Vertical Studio structure in second and third year in which students from both these years learn together in thematic studios offering distinctively different approaches to architectural design. All studios are taught by both full time academic staff and part time practice based tutors bringing a wealth of relevant and contemporary experience to our students.
