The Architecture Research Group (aRCH) within the SABRE Research Centre at the Department of Architecture and Built Environment, the South East Technological University (SETU) organised an annual All-Ireland Architecture Research Group (AIARG) conference on the 13th and 14th of March 2025 in Waterford. The conference theme was “Ethics in Architecture.” The response to the call to explore how architects deal with ethical challenges and dilemmas was overwhelming. Over 40 practitioners, educators, researchers, publicists and philosophers from 12 countries around the world presented their findings.

Two keynote speakers delivered their papers. One was Tom Spector, Professor Emeritus at Oklahoma State University, USA, and the author of the critically acclaimed book The Architecture and the Public Good (2024). Patrick Healy, a philosopher, writer, artist, and Dubliner based in Amsterdam, gave the other keynote address.

The conference also had a panel discussion with Nicholas Ray, Reader Emeritus, University of Cambridge, the editor of Architecture and its Ethical Dilemmas (2005), Professor Lisa Landrum, Chair of Architecture at Toronto Metropolitan University MTU and Giulia Valone, Senior Architect from Cork County Council.

The Building Change initiative supported this event.
