Dr. Marcello Turini visited the Department of Architecture and Built Environment in SETU, Waterford in early March 2024, where he expertly led student workshops alongside a parallel staff dialogue session exploring how simulation tools can enable the determination of possible future climate impacts on building design.

The workshops outlined an agile workflow, which he supported by relevant case studies, to consider and incorporate into architectural design, the impact of weather factors such as wind and radiation that occur at a particular site using calculated factors such as UTCI (Universal Thermal Climate Index), in order to understand and forecast the outdoor comfort temperature for the future climate of 2050.  He demonstrated the use of technological tools such as Rhino, Grasshopper and Ladybug, and shared a number of scripts to allow the students to engage with site models, using these methods.

Dr. Marcello Turini is based in Vienna, Austria, where is he is CEO of Architekturbüro Marcello Turrini ZT, and incorporates his extensive research experience into his practice. He holds a PhD in Architecture for climate change.

Both staff and students benefited greatly from Marcello’s experience and expertise, and look forward to continuing links with him in the future.
