It has been a busy few months Building Change in UCD. In October we were delighted to be part of Constructive Interference, an exhibition curated, designed and produced by recent UCD Architecture graduates Rubble, as part of Building EXPO and the RIAI Annual Conference at the RDS. Work from all six partner schools was showcased, complemented by a series of talks by young architects and students working to transform practice in response to the climate and housing emergencies.
Our UCD Student Curators have been busy, supporting the Constructive Interference exhibition, continuing their Podcast series Social Construct – with a new episode out about Digital Skills in Architecture Education – and producing Issue 2 of Rich Views zine – due for publication in early 2025.
Our revised curriculum is now rolling out over two years with changes across the course structure and modules. A notable new module in First Year is Regenerative Practice, introducing climate literacy and a regenerative approach to the practice of architecture. We were delighted to share this experience with our colleagues in partner schools at a workshop on Curriculum Change hosted by CCAE in November.
We began this trimester by bringing all staff together to workshop an holistic approach to data supported design and digital skills across the curriculum. Following on from Earth Week last year, this year we are planning Stone Week – a hands-on week in which students and staff will explore the sourcing, use and properties of stone in construction. And we look forward to welcoming several visitors to the school, for talks, seminars and critical friend input. You can follow our regular updates on Instagram @ucdarch_building_change
