Summacumfemmer Workshop

Our 2025 Building Change Architects-in-Residence are Florian Summa and Anne Femmer who are founding directors of the Leipzig based Summacumfemmer.

The practice’s built work includes San Riemo (2020), a co-operative housing development in Munich designed with Büro Juliane Greb. Summa and Femmer were co-curators of Open for Maintenance, the German contribution to the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale. They also teach at the University of the Arts in Berlin.

As part of their residency Florian and Anne will deliver a week long workshop for our first year architecture students, tentatively titled ‘Figurate Necessities’ through which they will repurpose cabinets and other practical storage units. This teaching approach will practice the process of physically reshaping existing architecture: artistically, technically and intellectually by bringing the students ‘close’ to the material artefacts and convey how design can take place in the existing without intermediate agents. The re-worked outputs will form an exhibition in SABE Linenhall Gallery.

Summacumfemmer will also speak publicly at a lecture on 27th March co-hosted by the Architectural Association of Ireland and SABE Building Change.
