Starting in January, TU Dublin welcomed educators and professionals in Architecture, Architectural Technology, and Engineering, aiming to inspire new approaches to teaching and practice through their Whole Life Design CPD module.
Over the course of 9 weeks, participants will complete eight lectures and assignments, culminating in a colloquium to discuss the module’s implications for the future of architectural education and practice.
The framework, built around 8 stepping stones, guided participants in interrogating and refining design methods. Key areas of focus included:
-
Data: Harnessing insights to drive informed design decisions.
-
Flexible Planning: Emphasizing adaptability for future needs.
-
Post-Occupancy Analysis: Evaluating building performance in real-world contexts.
-
Embodied and Operational Carbon: Tackling carbon impacts from all angles.
-
Shearing Layers, Durability, and Environmental Assessment: Ensuring resilience and sustainability at every level.
