The purpose of this one-week project was to think laterally about the issue of sea-level rise and flooding. Students were asked to envision a future way of life, based in the city of Waterford, that would certainly be different from now, but could possibly be positive and even rewarding. For this one-week project, spread across all the years in the school, students were given licence to imagine a utopian future! The project provoked of creative thinking, bridging cold reality and optimism.
Their ideas were compiled into short films created by each group, using sketches, photos, diagrams, animations, transect drawings and narrative voice-overs. There was a ‘film-screening’ and feedback at the end of the week attended by staff and students.
