Aidan Conway

HCI Digital Co-ordinator, University of Limerick

Aidan Conway qualified as a graduate of architecture with an MSc in Architecture Cum Laude from TUDelft in 2016, The Netherlands. He has been a member of the RIAI since 2020. Aidan is a Year 3 Design Tutor and Digital Co-ordinator at the School of Architecture University of Limerick.

As part of the Year 3 studio team at SAUL and in responding to the development of the Resilient Design Curricula Reform Aidan introduced an opportunity to engage with the Island community of Clare Island, County Mayo. The island is one of the most studied ecological environments in Europe. The Clare Island Survey carried out by Richard Praeger between1909 -1911 and its 65 volumes cataloguing every aspect of the island from geology to microbial sea life. The island is a microcosm of the many issues facing rural communities, including depopulation and land management, with the added complexities of Island life and the coming impacts of a changing climate.

Aidan is the HCI Digital Co-ordinator at UL. He also teaches Yar 3 Visual Culture. The focus of the module is on becoming attuned to the visual quality of surfaces. Their focus moves from architectural abstraction to the real texture, pattern and relief of the surface before them. The module is supported by a series of lectures which introduce them to specific artists and architects.

Aidan founded MARMAR architects in Castlebar in 2021. His work engages with the history of the built environment and specifically how it positions itself within the landscape of the west of Ireland. He is currently engaged in a number of residential projects as well as ongoing research by means of an Arts Council bursary. He recently exhibited his research drawings at Architecture at the Edge’s ‘Re-Mapped’ Exhibition in The Printworks, Galway in September 2023.
